[ Commenting on things other people think first is one thing, being the one who starts a connection (or whatever the hell it's called) is another completely, but he's got a (maybe not that important) question for his brother, so here goes. ]
[ It's easier to just ask Zeno stuff then to ask total strangers, okay. If any of their other brothers had been around, he might have asked them, though. Well. Perhaps not Abi. Yeah, definitely not Abi. Unless it was about birds or something. ]
Good, and as usual. Why're you asking? Shouldn't things be going well or something?
[ At sometime in the middle of the afternoon of X day, whatever Zeno's doing may be interrupted because Lucy is RUDE and thinks only of herself~! not ]
The latter!...sort of. We're having a sort of late welcome party crossed with a kind of celebration of a holiday we have back home. I thought you and Shu-Ten might like to come too - I know that Natsu would be glad to see you guys.
Hehee, great! I asked Shu-Ten if he'd like to come too, so you guys can come together if you like. We're having the party after 12, so you can come any time, no pressure.
You don't know me but I know that you're good friends with Snow White! I'm letting you know that her birthday is this weekend on Endeca 4th! [Saturday February 4th] She doesn't want a birthday party but I think someone as special as her deserves a Happy Birthday Wish.
Awww, it's Bakery Miss' birthday? Thanks for letting Zeno know! You're such a good friend!
Even if she doesn't want a party, a friend of hers who can bake should give her a birthday cake. That's a tradition in her world too, right? She does those special cakes all the time so Zeno assumes so. Anyway, she told me that no one ever cooked for her before she arrived to Verens, so it would be really special for her if someone makes that kind of treat for the first time. Sadly I'm more familiar with her tinier forest friends but you probably know who to turn to.
Thanks to you, too~! Hope to meet you one day! Zeno
[It was later in the afternoon that Shin-Ah decided to make his approach, carefully seeking out Zeno at wherever he might be in town that day and waiting for the crowds to die down so that they could have a few minutes to themselves.
Wherever Zeno might be that day, Shin-Ah would silently make his presence known by peering in from a nearby window-- hiding underneath it as a small child would.
Clutched in his hands was a note that he had found in his favorite fishing spot earlier that day. It seemed important, since it was carefully placed inside a sealed bowl of rice and vegetables that had become lunch for himself and Ao.
Surely, someone hadn't just left it there....had they?]
[Zeno had his sense to locate the other dragons' presences so attuned with the centuries, that the boy hiding a few meters from him was a piece of cake. Fitting, considering it was the bakery. Zeno finishes kneading a ball of bread dough and talks to his boss about taking some fresh air.
Once he's out, one of Snow White's bird friends flies towards him and perches on his shoulder. That happened a lot, and not just the feathery pal variety. It was good it wasn't a squirrel this time; he wouldn't want Ao to be jealous.]
Are you playing hide-and-seek, Shin-Ah? Ready or not, here I come!
[Zeno's discretion in leaving the bakery was appreciated-- it might prevent even more odd looks and the fussing of a certain young lady who seemed to run the business...at least, for now.
Ao peeked her head out of Shin-Ah's headdress when Zeno and his little feathered friend arrived, kyuuing merrily in greeting while Shin-Ah-- his reason for even venturing so far into the city momentarily falling by the wayside when Zeno showed his interest in playing.]
Hide-and-seek?
[He canted his head to the side. Wouldn't Shin-Ah's everything be cheating when anything is supposed to be hidden?]
It did look like great fun-- and Shin-Ah was already eager to see how this game would play out in a larger space. Someday, for sure, they would play hide-and-seek all over the woods and hop all over the trails as if they were woodland creatures themselves.
But, this time Shin-Ah had approached with something specific in mind.]
Ah...
[He delicately held the folded paper up for Zeno.]
This. It has words inside it.
[Words that he couldn't yet read, and he didn't want to bother Yona or Kija while they were busy at their jobs.]
[That's a plan, and one that can be done even daily if the boy so desires. Perks of living outside of the city.]
Hmmm, let me see...
[He's flattered he came to him first. Zeno would think he'd go to Kija or Abi first. A part of him is tempted to read something random instead, but he just can't betray the trust of such a sweet kid.]
It's a letter to someone. Doesn't say to whom it's addressed. Should I read it anyway?
[It would be easy to stumble upon Shin-Ah that afternoon in the cottage-- for he was actually in the cottage, unlike his normal activities. While Ao chittered and kyuu'd around the kitchen, leaping from bowl to bowl sampling sundry ingredients from nori to salted fish, Shin-Ah was very astutly watching a pot simmering on the stovetop.
A peek inside would reveal the rice cooking inside-- but Shin-Ah didn't need to lift the lid. Watching it like he did was all he needed to check on it's progress.]
[Zeno comes back from the city and walks into the kitchen with a bag of groceries, humming under his breath.]
Ah! Hi, Shin-Ah! Zeno got fruit and chicken from the market!
[He starts to store the food in its place. Still, he might not have the seiryuu eyes but his nose is good at recognizing some smells. He gives the air a good whiff.]
[The question was met with a simple nod-- yes, it certainly was rice! The fish flakes and nori wrap on the counter told the tale of what he was working on, but words were a thing that could be useful in adding more clarity to the picture he had found.]
For onigiri.
[His skill wasn't as good as Yoon's. But... It was something.]
[Did they? He hadn't realized-- but it certainly explained how Shinji knew how to make them whenever he decided to make a quick lunch for Shin-Ah and Kija during long shifts at the Spa. Shin-Ah canted his head to the side in interest, mulling this over and wondering what else there was in Kouka that was similar in other lands. Ginger soup, perhaps? Potatoes certainly were, after all.]
